Spectacle Lenses

There are many types of spectacle lenses available. Our experienced dispensing staff will advise you of the best lenses for your prescription and your lifestyle.

We will then take accurate measurements using state of the art equipment to ensure that your lenses are in the optimum position and the lenses will then be manufactured to the highest standards.

If you want to keep your existing frames, we are very happy to reglaze them, and in most cases, you will not need to leave the frame with us as we are usually able to scan the frame and produce lenses to fit.

Single vision lenses

Single vision lenses are designed to be used at a specified distance, this can be far distances for example, driving or watching TV, or for viewing near objects for example reading a book or sewing or for intermediate use such as viewing a computer screen, or reading sheet music.

Varifocals

Progressive power lenses (varifocals) allow clear viewing at all distances, the power of the lens changes depending which area of the lens you are looking through, allowing a smooth transition from distant, to intermediate, to near. There are many different lens designs available to suit most budgets and visual requirements offering presbyopic patients a wide range of options.

Varilux® invented the varifocal over half a century ago and whilst other designs are available, we continue to recommend them as our lens of choice as they have remained at the forefront of varifocal design and innovation, and we believe that they make the best lenses currently available in the world.

Castle Opticians has been awarded the coveted Varilux® bespoke status to recognise our experience in dispensing Varilux® varifocals.

Visioffice®

The state of the art equipment that we use such as the Visioffice® 3 to measure our varifocals, means that we are one of the few practices in South Essex that are able to dispense the worlds most advanced varifocal, the Varilux® XR series™.

All of our varifocals come with a satisfaction guarantee.

Bifocal lenses

Bifocal lenses are designed so that there are two areas of clear vision, (usually distance and near). A segment towards the bottom of the lens provides the second area of clear vision. Although bifocals are commonly regarded as a more traditional option, bifocal segments are available in a range of shapes and sizes and offer an alternative option for presbyopic patients.

Occupational lenses

With the challenges that the modern working environment presents, our eyes are under more strain than ever. Occupational lenses are designed to take the strain out of working with computers and display devices whilst still enabling you to see to read and sometimes even across the office. Depending on your working environment, we will tailor them to your needs.

Myopia control lenses

One of the biggest challenges facing our younger generations is the rapid increase in short sightedness (myopia). It was once rare to see youngsters wearing glasses in the classroom, it is now increasingly common. Uncorrected short sightedness can be a major contributing factor to poor educational attainment, and it can lead to serious eye health problems later in life.

Rapid developments in spectacle and contact lens technology have enabled us to slow down and, in some cases, halt the progression of myopia. We recommend the Stellest® spectacle lens for young people with myopia, as we’ve seen some fantastic results in controlling the development of myopia.

Transitions® lenses

The technology that used to be called Reactolite has moved on in recent years and the latest plastic Transitions® lenses provide great protection against sun and blue-violet light whilst changing rapidly when you move indoors.

There are two main types of Transitions® lenses. Firstly, standard Transitions® goes dark when exposed to light outside and rapidly clears when you come indoors. Secondly, Transitions® Xtractive®, which will darken when exposed to any bright light (including whilst in a car) and returns to a clear state in less bright conditions.

Most of our lens designs are available in Transitions® and there are now many more colours available in Transitions® materials, gone are the days when the only choice was grey and brown!

Thin and light lenses

Most of our lens designs are available in thin and light materials and this means we can create glasses that look good and feel good even for more challenging prescriptions.

Coatings

We believe that all spectacle lenses should be protected by a lens coating. Coatings (particularly those that incorporate an anti-reflection element), can make vision sharper and clearer, often reducing eyestrain. As well as our standard coatings, we offer specialised coatings from the Crizal® family that can help with night driving and reduce blue light transmission. Many of our lenses come as standard with a coating that is guaranteed against scratching for two years.

Multi Pair Offers

Not only do we have an incredible range of different types of spectacle lenses, but many of them are covered by our great multi pair offers (including our highest performance Varilux® XR series™ lenses). Please ask about our latest offers when you visit the practice.
